Calbag Metals has been a scrap metal recycler for over 100 years. After failing to meet storm water benchmarks, Calbag selected Daniel Scarpine to assist with integration of metals removal technology downstream of existing oil water separator.

Key Services

  • Conducted comprehensive site assessment to identify metal sources, and potential source controls
  • Prepared test plan for use of compost-based and peat-based metals polishing media using the Stormwater Management StormFilter SystemR
  • Collected storm water effluent and conducted bench tests using scale bench apparatus
  • Provided environmental design services for full scale pilot, feed pump, and sampling system (in conjunction with client’s civil engineer)
  • Provided sampling services using ISCO autosamplers

Outcomes

  • Based on test plan, compost-based media was found to be most effective
  • Full scale tests showed the system could meet benchmark standards
  • The system was operated continuously until pending lower permit limits resulted in the selection of more modern treatment system
