Cement Production Facility
Comprehensive Plant Water Use Optimization, Wastewater and Stormwater Permitting, Treatment System Design

A northwest cement production facility struggled to manage process and stormwater due to worldwide drop in product demand.  Aquarius Environmental was selected to optimize water use, segregate process water, prepare wastewater permitting documents, prepare a stormwater treatment engineering report, and prepare design of an interim and long-term stormwater treatment system with water and solids recycling capabilities.

Initially, the Aquarius Environmental (AE) team conducted bench and laboratory tests to identify potential interim treatment technologies.  This was coupled with permit and interim discharge negotiation.  The team selected and mobilized a leased electro-coagulation system that allowed continued reuse of treated water and solids while concurrently collecting pilot data for an engineering report.

Once the interim system was online, AE focused on process and washwater management.  The project approach included teaming with a permitting specialist and an environmental attorney.  The scope of work included preparing site record drawings, compiling water use, storage and recommended piping revisions.  The team subsequently prepared and submitted a comprehensive Engineering Report to Washington Department of Ecology.  The report documented process, wastewater and stormwater management, as well as indicated proposed long term treatment and management.  The report was approved unconditionally by DOE NW Region.
